Celebrity MasterChef 2026: Meet the 5 Stars Cooking in Week One

Olympic medallist, BBC presenter, and pop star lead the first batch of contestants

Celebrity MasterChef returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its 21st series, bringing together five celebrities for the opening week of culinary competition. From Olympic weightlifting to pop stardom and comedy, this year's lineup promises drama and plenty of kitchen pressure.

The competition pushes contestants beyond their comfort zones. As the BBC puts it: "Acting the part won't cut the mustard." Only one will lift the Celebrity MasterChef trophy.

Emily Campbell: Olympic Lifting to Culinary Battles

Team GB Olympic medallist Emily Campbell enters the MasterChef kitchen with confidence. Her friend Kadeena Cox, who won the show previously, inspired her to participate. "Life's too short not to challenge yourself," Campbell said.

She describes her cooking style as split between "Emily the Athlete" — consuming 3,500 calories daily — and "Emily the Person," who loves Mexican food with a Caribbean twist. Her Sundays growing up meant curried mutton, rice and peas, and reggae music, a tradition from her father's Caribbean heritage.

Jason Mohammad: Dad Energy in the Kitchen

BBC Radio 2 presenter Jason Mohammad, known as "JMo," enters as a home cook and father. His kids say he "just throws things in a pan and hopes for the best." His signature dish, "JMo's Magnificent Mackerel," features leftover basmati rice, tinned mackerel, kale, green chillies and soy sauce topped with a fried egg.

His early food memories trace back to picking vegetables in his grandfather's Welsh garden and his grandmother's roast chicken after family holidays.

Jay McGuiness: The Wanted Star Going Vegetarian

Jay McGuiness of global boyband The Wanted follows bandmates who previously appeared on the show. As a vegetarian, he describes his cooking as "100 iterations of rice or potatoes and vegetables, fried tofu or mock meats."

"I like challenges and learning new things. What's the worst that could happen?" he said. He became vegetarian at age 13, with his first "vegetarian dinner" being chip shop chips — a decision his mother supported.

Shakira Khan: Baking Queen with Pakistani Heritage

Shakira Khan brings her Pakistani heritage into the kitchen, fusing cuisines with dishes like Keema Spaghetti Bolognese and curried beans on toast. She calls herself the "queen of cakes" on Sundays, with desserts and baking as her specialty.

"I want to make my family proud and show the flavours I grew up with," she said. Her father has been tutoring her ahead of the competition, sharing family recipes she hopes to pass to her children.

Joe Pasquale: The Comedy Veteran

Comedian Joe Pasquale, performing for 41 years, said: "I don't like to be in shallow water; I love the deep end." His earliest food memory involves his father's proper meat and vegetables in the 1960s, often shared guiltily among siblings. His mother famously cooked Christmas dinner only once — leaving the giblets in the plastic bag inside the turkey.

To impress friends, he prepares scallops, tuna steak with Thai salad, and banoffee pie.

What to Expect This Season

The 21st series runs for five weeks of challenges. Contestants face pressure tests, invention tests, and cook-offs. The winner earns the Celebrity MasterChef trophy.
