The National Meteorological Center of Libya has forecast continued high temperatures across the country's western regions on Friday, while eastern areas will experience relatively moderate conditions before a gradual rise on Saturday. The weather system coincides with active dust-stirring winds expected to affect most parts of the nation.
The Center's bulletin, issued by the Weather Forecasting Department, detailed that areas from Ras Jadir through Sirte to the Jefara Plain and Nafusa Mountains will see cloud accumulation with a chance of light morning rains on some coastal stretches. Winds will be variable to northeasterly, light to moderate in speed, before intensifying on Saturday, particularly along the coastlines.
Maximum temperatures in these western regions range between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius on the coasts, and between 35 and 42 degrees Celsius inland. A notable drop is expected starting Saturday across most areas. In the Gulf region and the Benghazi Plain up to Amsaad, skies will be clear to partly cloudy, with occasional cloud buildup over the Green Mountain highlands. Winds will shift from variable southeasterly to southwesterly, becoming moderate to active and raising dust and sand.
Temperatures in the east range between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius, with a further rise anticipated on Saturday, especially in Gulf areas. In the southern regions of Jufra, Sabha, Ghat, Ghadames, and Al-Hamada, clear skies prevail with high-level clouds visible. Southwesterly to southeasterly winds, light to moderate, will occasionally activate and stir sand and dust. Maximum temperatures in the southwest reach 42 to 44 degrees Celsius, with a slight additional increase expected Saturday.
The National Meteorological Center confirmed that weather bulletins are updated every 24 hours or whenever significant changes occur, urging citizens to follow official updates. The Center emphasized that most northern Libyan regions will experience a noticeable temperature decline starting Sunday, with the cooling trend extending to southern areas by mid-week.
Residents in desert and inland areas, where temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius, are advised to take precautions against heat exposure. The dust storms triggered by active winds may reduce visibility on highways, particularly in southern and central Libya, posing risks for travelers and transport operations.
The combination of extreme heat and active winds presents challenges for agriculture, transportation, and public health across Libya. Farmers in the Jefara Plain and coastal areas face potential crop stress from the high temperatures, while dust conditions may impact aviation and road safety.
The forecast indicates relief is on the horizon, with temperatures expected to drop significantly across northern Libya from Sunday onward, and the cooling trend reaching southern regions by the middle of next week. The National Meteorological Center continues to monitor the situation and will issue updated bulletins as conditions evolve.
Citizens are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak heat hours, and monitor official weather advisories for the latest developments.
