Libya Weather Forecast: Unstable Conditions Expected Across Regions Over Next Three Days

The National Center for Meteorology in Libya has announced that the country will experience a period of weather instability starting Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The forecast calls for scattered rainfall across several northern regions, with moderate temperatures prevailing in most areas and a gradual cooling trend expected in the south over the coming two days.

Rainfall and Northern Regions

According to the Center, rain showers are expected to fall on the Hamada area, Al-Shuwayrif, Al-Qaryat, Abu Najim, Sirte, as well as the Gulf region and areas stretching from Benghazi to the Green Mountain and the far northeast. Some locations may experience heavy rainfall at times, with relatively cool conditions across the north. Temperatures in these areas are expected to range between 17 and 27 degrees Celsius.

The coastal strip from Ras Jadir to Sirte, the Jafara plain, and the Nafusa Mountains will see partly cloudy skies with scattered rain affecting Bani Walid, Mizda, Al-Qaryat, Al-Shuwayrif, Abu Najim, and Sirte. Northwesterly winds will be light to moderate in speed, with temperatures between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Southeastern Regions and Temperature Drop

In contrast, southeastern regions will continue to experience relatively high temperatures today before a notable drop begins tomorrow across most southern areas. Daytime temperatures in the south are forecast to range between 29 and 37 degrees Celsius.

The Gulf region and the Benghazi coast up to Amsaad will see cloud buildup at times with chances of scattered rain, particularly from Benghazi to the Green Mountain and the far eastern coast. Northwesterly winds may become active enough to raise dust, with temperatures between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius.

Southern Interior and Desert Areas

In the Al-Jufra, Sabha, Ghat, Ghadamis, and Hamada regions, skies will be clear to partly cloudy with a chance of scattered morning rain in some areas. Dust-raising winds are expected to be active, with temperatures ranging between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius before dropping tomorrow.

The oases of Al-Wahat, Al-Sirir, Tazirbu, and Al-Kufra will experience clear to partly cloudy conditions with north to northwesterly winds that may become active at times, leading to dust storms. Temperatures in these areas will range between 37 and 45 degrees Celsius, with a significant decline expected in the coming period.

Outlook: Stability Expected by Next Week

The National Center for Meteorology indicated that weather conditions are expected to stabilize relatively with no significant changes in the near term. Moderate weather is forecast to continue across all regions of Libya through the beginning of next week. Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts, particularly those in areas expecting heavy rainfall and dust storms.
