The Saudi Ministry of Culture has launched the "Ramadan Season 1446 AH" initiative across the Kingdom under the slogan "Layalina Has Returned" (Our Nights Have Returned), organizing cultural and community events in 14 cities spanning 10 regions. More than 38 locations will host a diverse program of activities throughout the holy month, celebrating Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage and Ramadan traditions.
The initiative represents the ministry's continued commitment to positioning culture at the heart of Saudi society, offering residents and visitors alike an opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of Ramadan through carefully curated events that blend tradition with modern creative expression.
The Ramadan Season spans multiple regions, with major events concentrated in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, alongside programming in Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk, Abha, Al-Ahsa, and other cities. Key Riyadh locations include the Al Ghadeer Walkway and Olaya Street, while Jeddah's waterfront and historic districts will host evening activities.
Each city's program is designed to reflect its unique cultural character while maintaining the unified theme of "Layalina Has Returned," which evokes nostalgia for traditional Ramadan nights and the communal spirit that defines the month across the Arab world.
The season features a comprehensive cultural program encompassing live performances, art exhibitions, traditional music concerts, storytelling sessions, and culinary experiences showcasing authentic Saudi cuisine. Creative workshops, poetry evenings, and heritage demonstrations will take place in public spaces designed to encourage social interaction and family participation.
Roads and public spaces across participating cities have been decorated with Ramadan-themed lights and artistic installations, transforming urban landscapes into vibrant cultural venues. The ministry has emphasized that the events are designed to be inclusive, welcoming families, youth, and visitors from all backgrounds.
The Ramadan Season initiative highlights the values and traditions that Saudi society has preserved over generations despite rapid modernization. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the events celebrate the customs of Saudi society during the fasting month, introduce authentic Saudi cuisine, and present Ramadan traditions that have been passed down through families for decades.
This balance between heritage preservation and contemporary cultural expression reflects the broader cultural transformation underway in Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030, where traditional arts and social customs are being rediscovered and presented to new audiences through modern platforms and formats.
The Ministry of Culture, established on June 2, 2018 under the leadership of Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, has been steadily expanding the Kingdom's cultural calendar throughout the year. Ramadan Season joins other major initiatives such as the Riyadh Season entertainment festival, the AlUla arts and heritage program, and various regional cultural festivals that have collectively transformed Saudi Arabia into a growing destination for cultural tourism.
For Libyan readers, the Saudi Ramadan Season offers a glimpse into the broader revival of Arab cultural heritage across the region, reflecting shared traditions that resonate deeply with Libyan society's own relationship with the holy month. The emphasis on community gatherings, traditional cuisine, and evening cultural activities mirrors similar practices in Libyan cities from Tripoli to Benghazi, where Ramadan nights have long been a time for family connection and cultural celebration.
The Ramadan Season events are scheduled throughout the holy month, with activities running from evening until late night, accommodating the unique rhythm of life during Ramadan. Admission to most events is free, reflecting the ministry's goal of making culture accessible to all segments of society.
