The Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) has launched the 13th edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA) for 2026, expanding its scope with three main pillars focused on innovation, quality of life, and community empowerment. Submissions are open from July 1 to August 31, 2026, offering individuals and organizations worldwide the opportunity to showcase excellence in government communication.
Since its inception, the SGCA has grown into one of the most prestigious awards in the field of government and institutional communication, earning recognition both regionally and globally. The award seeks to highlight outstanding campaigns, initiatives, and strategies that drive meaningful change through effective communication.
The 2026 edition introduces a refined structure built around three core pillars. The first focuses on innovation in government communication, celebrating creative approaches that leverage new technologies and methodologies. The second pillar emphasizes quality of life, recognizing initiatives that directly improve citizens' well-being through strategic communication. The third pillar centers on community empowerment, honoring projects that strengthen social bonds and enable communities to participate in development.
According to the SGMB, these three pillars reflect the rapid evolution of the communications sector and broaden opportunities for initiatives that use communication to support sustainable development. The award spans 23 sub-categories across these pillars, offering a wide range of entry points for participants from government entities, international organizations, private sector institutions, and individuals.
A notable feature of the 2026 edition is the prominent role of artificial intelligence in shaping modern government communication. The SGCA has integrated AI-related categories that recognize how machine learning, natural language processing, and automated systems are transforming the way governments interact with citizens.
Officials say this year's edition reflects a broader shift in communication, where success is measured not only by speed and scale but also by impact and accountability. AI-powered tools are enabling governments to personalize public messaging, analyze citizen sentiment in real-time, and deliver services more efficiently — developments that the award seeks to highlight and encourage.
The SGCA jury committee, chaired by Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, Director General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM), convened its first meeting for the 13th edition at Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah. The panel reviewed both new and returning categories, setting evaluation criteria that prioritize measurable impact, creativity, and alignment with the award's core pillars.
The international composition of the jury ensures that submissions are evaluated against global best practices, maintaining the award's reputation as a benchmark for excellence in government communication. Past winners have included campaigns from across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, demonstrating the award's far-reaching influence.
Interested participants can submit their entries through the official SGCA website at gca.sgmb.ae. The submission window runs from July 1 to August 31, 2026, giving applicants approximately two months to prepare and submit their campaigns and initiatives.
Eligibility extends to government entities at all levels, international organizations, private sector companies, non-profits, and individual communication professionals. Submissions should demonstrate clear objectives, measurable outcomes, and a direct connection to one or more of the award's three pillars.
For Libyan communication professionals and government institutions, the SGCA represents a valuable platform to benchmark their work against international standards. As Libya continues its journey of reconstruction and institutional development, participation in awards like the SGCA offers opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and showcasing Libyan talent on a global stage.
The award's emphasis on community empowerment and quality of life aligns closely with the priorities of Libyan civil society and government communication departments seeking to rebuild public trust and deliver more effective public services.
The 13th edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award reinforces Sharjah's position as a hub for media and communication excellence in the Arab world. With its expanded focus on AI, innovation, and societal impact, the 2026 edition promises to set new benchmarks for what government communication can achieve.
